2007 SaaS Trend Poll

January 5, 2007

I’m a little discouraged that no one has commented on my question regarding offline clients. We generally get a fair number of comments, perhaps no one wants to give away thier plans? Maybe everyones just to busy making - what are for the most part – obvious ‘predictions’ about 2007 so they have something to blog about it 2008.

I didn’t do a predictions list. I didn’t really have time. I thought about combing through others predictions and picking which of those I thought would be right and which would be wrong but again, short on time. Thankfully, Phil has made it easy for me, I can just refer you to his ingenious poll. Cast your vote for the top SaaS trend of 07 here. I believe in the wisdom of crowds and that the results are probably going to be pretty accurate.

    Hi,

I’m not affiliated with the effort at all but just wanted to mention that SitePen is supporting Brad Neuberg’s development of the Dojo Offline Toolkit:

    http://www.sitepen.com/blog/2007/01/02/the-dojo-offline-toolkit/

An example given in that post mentions how the DOT can be an offline client for services such as GMail:

“…a version of GMail with a “Work Offline” button on the left-hand side of the screen. When pressed, GMail downloads 100 of your most recent emails into Dojo Offline, including pieces of it’s user-interface…”

Maybe it’s a good thing that SaaS providers focus on their online services and one or more third parties can focus on “generalized” technology to let us use them all offline…

  2. Pete, this is interesting. Look forward to hearing more about it, especially about anyone who will be implementing. Hope you will keep us posted.

    Thanks,
