Slowing Down for the Holiday
December 22, 2006
Well we’ve reached the bottom of the PR trough with the holiday coming next week. The blogs are slowing down, the only press releases that come out will be the ones they don’t want you to read. Alternatively, who will want to make the first splash of the new year? Who will have the first press release of the year? Zimbra, Zoho, Foldera? I’ll provide what link bait I can for whomever’s first. Just don’t tell Google, otherwise I might have to add a ‘NoFollow’ tag….
Here are a few other things I’d like to see in 07:
A comprehensive chart of who offers what in terms of applications for business; email, ’word’ documents, spreadsheets, powerpoint, project planning, etc. Any volunteers? You should be able to get a lot of links for something thorough.
Will storage size stop being used as a product differentiator in 2007? Can someone please do a survey for us and let us know if customers really see this as a key factor?
How many new products will Zoho launch in 07? Raju or Arvind, is there a Zoho Mail coming?
Do those ratios in Nichebot really work? (Keyword campaign in progress.)
Foldera Launch….. Still skeptical Oliver & Dave…. you can send my beta login to catchyaintit [at] yahoo.com
Who will have a mash up for Goowy first?
Which conference, related to our topics here, is THE one to go to for 2007?
Will the expanded features of products like Zimbra, HyperOffice and others begin to make a serious dent into the Hosted Exchange market?
What do you think will be interesting with everyone in 2007, basecamp, bluetie, everyone.net, foldera, fusemail, hyperoffice, intermedia.net, load.com, mailsnare, mailstreet, MI8, myoffice.net, norada, runbox, scalix, sherweb, simplicato, solodox, swishmail, thinkfree, usa.net, webmail.us, zimbra, zoho…
What else needs to be covered?
Our visitor stats are growing pretty strong so please help tell your story, provide some thought leadership and expand the dialogue to keep people coming back. We can all benefit from more content, more links and more exposure.

Its unfortunate that Zoho Mail went unnoticed. Actually Zoho Mail, Calendar etc is already out and is available @ http://www.zohox.com. It is named as Zoho Virtual Office and the name partly could be the cause of confusion. Let me do a poll in our blog to see if it makes sense to change the name to Zoho Mail instead of Zoho Virtual office.
On the other hand, it is little known as the app is still in closed beta. We will open the closed beta some time in Feb.
Regarding new products coming from Zoho, We are excited on whats coming.

Raju, sorry about that. I guess I just forgot that the Office containe the mail, calendar, tasks, etc. I think there is something there though in terms of how you present what each tool is for and how they are or are not integrated together. For example, the Virtual Office isn’t under productivity tools but many put Email, tasks and calendaring in productivity. And aren’t writer and sheet available from within office? Lots of products, if I’m a small business user I need a toolbar that has icons for each and the ability to pick and choose which ones I want to see.

Probably the categorization can be varied a bit but the whole thing has to come together as a single product integrating all these together. Thats a task for 2007.

In 2007, I’m guessing the key factor for users to choose an application will not be space anymore, but rather its functions and usability. Again this is a guess, which is as good as any opinions out there. As Saas-a-fras-er and Raju have hinted, the current trend IS shifting towards products integrations instead of one particular product development. Companies will also race in terms of faster loading time and new innovations. I guess we’ll see newer and more innovative applications with ruby on rails framework (or similar framework) being used in 2007.
The bottom line is, companies that provide more features (product integrations) and faster applications will be the one leading the rest. Oh, and by the way, the design will also be one important factor, as well.

Zoho Apps in 2007?
SaaS-a-fras asks a question in his recent post about new products from Zoho in 07.
How many new products will Zoho launch in 07?
Frankly, we dont know the answer for this. While we surely will release some apps, no one (including Zoho) can answer this …

Hi there… came across your site while I was scouring the Web for SaaS resources, I’m actually in the process of finishing a “catalog” site as you described for launch next week. I’m not publicizing it yet but if you’re interested I’d love to have you take a look at it, let me know if you’re interested.
Regards,
Jason
